In this class, students will experiment with texture by learning two different smocking techniques, an easy ways to bring dramatic texture to your knitting. To learn and/or practice these skills, students will be knitting a new beanie pattern designed by Benjamin Matthews that was debuted at the 2025 Biggest Little Getaway retreat. Using bulky weight yarn, students can expect to complete a good amount of the project in class.
What is Smocking? Smocking is a simple technique to create gathers or pleats in your knitting that resemble cabling or pleating. In this class, we will learn different ways to achieve the same effect and add another textural tool to your knitting skill set by making a quick and easy beanie with bulky yarn.
